Awful Things In History

Today in 1981, IRA soldier Bobby Sands died in prison after his 88th day on a hunger strike.

In 1995, Michael Fay was caned in Singapore.

In 2006, my sister is getting married, far away.

And in 2003, the day that shall live in infamy, this baby was born.

She looks sweet and good, doesn't she? She looks it, but she's bad. She's one hundred percent bad. She's so bad, she'll send your supervisor an email expressing that he looks and smells like dehydrated yak. She'll go through your drawers and mis-match all your socks. She'll cancel your mortgage payment and laugh as she watches you get kicked out onto the street. She'll cover herself in marker at the first opportunity.

And she just turned three.

Oh Virginia,

What a sweet, sweet tribute to my daughter on her third birthday!

By the way, the birthday girl thinks you should post more pictures of Hazel and Chico.

She also wants some Blythe dolls and knowing her, only the originals will do. Thanks a lot on that one.

Michael Fay deserved the punishment that he received and was lucky that his punishment was reduced (from 6 lashes to 4). He also served 4 months in jail and was fined approx. $2300.

He pled guilty to vandalism and to stealing road signs.

One student, Shiu Chi Ho, from Hong Kong, who pled not guilty and was later found guilty received 8 months in jail and 12 strokes of the cane.

It's too bad that one of the only things that people know about Singapore is that they canned that "poor kid from the US".
